Framing Continues 12-30-08

Tuesday 12-30-08 - Drove up the hill around noon today to see how things are progressing and they are moving right along with the framing of the basement.
The picture below shows several deer that were grazing & resting on the lot.

The picture below was taken Saturday 12-27-08 around 2:00 p.m. I had just driven back from Christmas week in Seattle with Ted and drove directly to the lot. Couldn't wait to see the beginning of the framing. :)

Framing Begins 12-16-08

Mon. 12-15-08 - They delivered the lumber on Friday (12-12) in anticipation of the snow. I drove by on Monday and took the picture above.

Tue. 12-16-08 - On the way up the hill this morning I stopped to snap this picture of Hurricane Ridge. Such an incredibly beautiful (& cold) day.

The pictures below show the 1 framer working today. He said he would be working tomorrow as well, in spite of the forecast for snow. The basement slab looked like you could go skating on it.

The truck getting ready to leave.....

My granddaughter Megan and her boyfriend Cory came over for a visit today. They are standing by one of the new steel posts at the prow of the basement.

Power & Phone Lines

Fri. 11-21-08 - They were installing the power, phone, cable, etc. when I stopped by at 1:00 pm. These are the guys that will be doing all the electrical work in the house, so we'll see a lot more of them later. The state inspection will be on Monday, and they'll backfill the ditch on Tuesday.

Power Lines Ditch 11-19-08

Wed. 11-19-08 - Drove up at 12:45 pm to check things out. They have dug the ditch to run the power from the new box to the house. Picture above I'm standing by the box facing the house. Picture below I'm in the garage facing the box.

Below are 2 nice pictures of our new basement floor. I walked around it and enjoyed the beautiful view and beautiful day.

Basement Slab 11-18-08

Tuesday, 11-18-08 - We have a basement slab! Yea! Drove up there today at 12:45 pm and the fellows were putting the finishing touches on the slab. Should be ready to walk around the basement by tomorrow. :)

11-13 & 14-08 was the 4th & 5th day of backfilling. You can see the progress in these 2 pictures. Rex, the concrete man (in green shirt) was checking things out to schedule the concrete truck for Tuesday, 11-18.

Backfilling - 3rd Day

Wed, 11-12-08 - Pouring down rain when I went up to the site this morning at 10:30. They were shooting the rocks across the conveyor belt all the way to the other side of the house. I wanted to stay and watch but got drenched and had to leave. :)

Drove by again at 1:30 pm. They are now shooting sand into the basement area. After each truckload, the sand is spread by hand and compacted with the hand operated machine in picture below. It's currently 4:00 pm and the truckloads of sand are still going up Miller Road.

Backfilling - 2nd Day

Tuesday, 11-11-08 - I'm standing at our "Front Door" taking above picture. In the picture below the top of the backhoe machine in the center of picture shows where the front door is.
Picture below shows the dirt up against the foundation walls for additional support. This was a requirement of the engineer who designed the steel framing for the cantilevered deck and floor-to-ceiling windows across the view side of the house.

Below just shows the various types of backfill being used. This is the west side of the house.

Backfilling & Drainage Pipes Day

Monday, 11-10-08 - I've been watching the dump trucks drive by the rental house all morning so drove up the hill at 1:00 pm today to see how things are going. Craig was overseeing the operation and running the dirt compactor. The dump trucks continued their trips until after 4:00 pm.
In the picture above they are dumping on the other side of the garage foundation wall. Below are a couple of shots of the drainage pipes that are going in all across the front/uphill side of the house.

Next he installed the moisture barrier on the up-hill side of the foundation.

Another 2-man crew was working on installing the sewer pipe. The picture below shows the very long ditch that was required.

Pouring Day Cheering Section

The Cheering Section above arrived around noon. Luke, Ruth & Hannah. They had a great time gathering leaves and playing around the big maple tree. It's such a beautiful day!
The tree might be a good place to put some seating benches and a picnic table. It's certainly big enough! The whole family arrived a little later - brothers, sisters, Mom and Grandma. The bigger boys had fun climbing the tree. Such a nice family.

Pouring Foundation Day

Tuesday, 10-28-08 - Pump truck started up at 11:15 am. David is handling the hose and two guys follow with a "vibrating machine" that gets rid of any air bubbles in the concrete.

When I left at 1:15 pm, they were on the 4th truck load of concrete. They were almost finished. David is finishing the garage foundation in picture below.

More Foundation Forms

Monday, 10-27-08 - Stopped by to check on things and snapped picture above.
Friday, 10-24-08 - They are really making good progress on the forms.
